Data

How and where will the data be shared?

The data collected in the project will be made available to the research community free of charge as a Scientific Use File (SUF) in various data inventory catalogs upon request. Following a standardized protocol with an authentication and authorization procedure, only members identified as belonging to a scientific institution are eligible to apply for the data and are required to register for an ID and password via the data repository with a valid e-mail address from such an institution. Students may apply with support of their supervisors, who need to be authorized scientific staff members of higher education or research institutions.

Information on applying for data and the content of the SUF can be found in due time in the corresponding data repository catalogs. The JTEPS datasets will be made available to the research community via the following scientific data sharing systems of highest scientific standards as early as possible:

  1. the SWISSUbase of the Swiss Centre of Expertise in the Social Sciences (FORS, all data will be provided in Japanese and English, with German being a third option)
  2. the German Data Archive for the Social Sciences (DAS, GESIS, all data will be provided in English)
  3. and the Centre for Social Research and Data Archives, Social Science Japan Data Archive (CSRDA: SSJDA, University of Tokyo, all data will be provided in Japanese)

Important note: Although data will be collected in Japanese language, the complete data sets will be provided in English (GESIS) and Japanese versions (CSRDA:SSJDA) or both (FORS).

Each of the JTEPS data sets will be assigned a globally unique and persistent identifier (a permanent DOI), allowing to find, track and cite the data. The DOI of the different data sets will be mentioned in all metadata documents, i.e. the README file, Data Manual, Codebook etc. Data Manual and Codebook are separately published, and made additionally available via different open access websites (project website, ResearchGate, Academia, etc.), and assigned a DOI as well, to enable data users to cite these documents when using and/or describing the data in publications etc.
